Slowness is the point
To access [Eco-Rail : Torokko in the forest], have a walk from [Sannosawa Parking] by the lake Nukahirra,
which is on the way to the north through Nukahira Onsen Town.
The reception is only about 50m from the parking.
[Eco-Rail : Torokko in the forest] has been open since 2003.
The owner, Mr. Noguchi, laid the rail by himself at the place of abandoned Shihoro line of former National Rail.
The truck proceeds by pedaling on the rear part and pushing the front part of a seat for 3 persons.
This simplicity may be hard to experience nowadays.
Truck’s craftworks evoke full of nostalgia for good old days and you may make a unique memory by the slowness
which you can not find at the sight of mini-SLs or any other places.
If you visit there with children, parents will have a good chance to show physical strength.
With your pedaling and children’s cheering, good memories of travel will be achieved.
Children over 5 years old can actually pedal the truck.
A parent pedaling one way with a child the other way round should be fun.
4 Eco-rails. Tour is in 20 minutes
There are 4 trucks available.
The length of the railway is 500m one way, namely 1km in a round trip.
It takes about 20 minutes.
There is a [tenshindai] device for changing course at the end.
Don’t worry. The stuff will explain everything before starting.
When it is not crowded, one truck will go to and back.
But in a high season (like holidays in May and summer vacation season), all 4 trucks starts together at interval of 70m.
So, first 3 trucks have to wait the last one at the end of the rail, and fourth truck, after changing direction, become the first to go back.
Listen to the sound of the primeval forest
In this entire short trip, you will be surrounded by the primeval forest of Hokkaido.
From early summer to mid-summer is recommended while you can go through fresh beautiful green.
Sound of winds, woods, conversations with companies, laughing voices…
All you see are Hokkaido’s great nature, sunshine coming through the leaves, one rail stretching in front of you, everyone’s smile…
We recommend to take pictures on the way, but do not go deep into the woods.

[Tenshadai] device is handmade! But works like as SL or trains
After 500m journey, visitors come up to the handmade [tenshadai] device.
You fix the truck’s tire and swing the rail with everyone’s force together, then simply go back.
In autumn, you can go through the tunnel of beautiful red leaves.
In winter, though the period is limited, you may have a rare experience going through the white snow.
